 Christmas Day 2008, 12:25 PM

There still looks to be a substantial threat of severe weather from
 Friday evening through Saturday evening.

Indications are that there will be two rounds of thunderstorms. One
should affect western Arkansas from Friday evening (well after dark)
into Saturday morning. The second round should affect most of the state
from later Saturday morning through Saturday evening.

Damaging winds will be the greatest severe weather threat, though there
could be some instances of large hail as well. I expect that we could
see a number of severe thunderstorm warnings issued. A few tornadoes
 could occur as well.

All in all, this is shaping up to be the greatest severe weather threat
that Arkansas has seen in several months.

Through the entire episode, most areas should pick up 1 to 2 inches of
rain. Amounts could be a little smaller in southeast Arkansas. There
will probably be some totals approaching 3 inches in the northwest part
 of the state.

I will issue the next message around 9:30 AM Friday.
