Ladies and gentlemen and fellow hams:

My name is Lanny Prichard, K5WLP, and I will be standing in for Randy,
K5BOC, until such time as his health improves.  I will be helping to manage
the West Gulf Emergency Net, which is currently slated to be stood up at 6
a.m. tomorrow, Sunday, 31 August.  The frequencies are as follows:  tactical
net, 3.873 MHz night/7.285 MHz day; H&W net, 3.935 MHz night/7.290 day.

I will be contacting most of you to get volunteers for two-hour shifts, to
man the net until the net is stood down.  Those who do volunteer will
receive copies of the preambles—a long form for the beginning of the two
hour slot, and a short form for every five minutes during the two hours.

I just completed a webinar with the National Weather Service at about ten
this morning, and it looks like Gustav may well reach category 4 by the time
it gets on out into the Gulf.  The track has also made a slight jog to the
east, which could change the whole situation for us.  The next NWS briefing
is this afternoon.

In the interim, please be considering the time frames in which you can help
with this effort.  I will be asking for two-hour time slots, even to even
(e.g.  2 a.m. to 4 a.m.) hours.  If any of you already know when you’d like
to volunteer, let me know at my primary email address:  lanny at tecinfo.com 
.  (Note the spelling; there is no ‘h’ in ‘tecinfo’.)  I have had trouble
with emails from my ARRL address.

Let’s all remember that this is THE really important side of amateur radio. 
I am relatively new to ham radio, and I apologize in advance for those
errors that I am sure that I will make.  But I assure you that I will be
doing my best to keep this as smooth as possible.  When this is all over, I
will be asking everyone to contribute comments to be incorporated into an
after-action report that I will disseminate to you all; we can’t improve if
we don’t identify those areas that need improvement.  Just remember: they’re
not “mistakes”, they’re “opportunities for improvement.”
