Isolated severe thunderstorms will be possible from this afternoon
through mid evening in Arkansas. Damaging winds will be the main severe
weather threat.
On Saturday and Sunday, a weak cold front will be in the state. As a
result, I suspect that chances for severe weather will be a little
greater. Even so, I doubt that we would see more than a few severe
thunderstorms in the state. Again, damaging winds will probably have a
greater chance of occurring than large hail.
On all of the days, the storms will be moving slowly, so the strongest
storms will be capable of dropping 2 to 3 inches of rain over relatively
small areas.
As we move into July, heat and humidity typically are capable of
producing a couple of severe thunderstorms in the state on almost any
given afternoon or evening. I'd rather not have these messages be so
redundant in calling for a couple of severe storms day after day. Thus,
I will confine my messages to days when it looks as though the chances
of severe weather or flooding will be greater than normal for the summer
months.
After today, I will be on vacation for three weeks. If all goes as
planned, I should have access to the Internet, so I expect to be able to
issue any necessary message while I am on vacation.
I will issue a brief update around 3:30 PM this afternoon.
