The pesky upper level low pressure has kept the really heavy rains in
Texas and Oklahoma once again during the past 24 hours. Over the next
few days, this upper level low will likely weaken and will probably not
move any closer to Arkansas.
Through today and tonight, the best chances for heavy rain will be over
northwest Arkansas, and a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through
Friday morning for Benton, Washington, Carroll, and Madison counties.
Elsewhere, any heavy rain will be confined to areas where a few strong
thunderstorms occur.
On Friday and Saturday, a weak cold front will be pushing into Arkansas.
Thus, chances for isolated severe storms are likely to increase a
little. Damaging winds will be the main severe weather threat.
Since the heaviest rains have remained out of Arkansas the past 24
hours, total rainfall amounts through Saturday will not be as great as
earlier expected. It now looks as though most parts of the state should
pick up 3/4 to 1 1/2 inches of rain. However, northwest Arkansas could
get quite a bit more than this if the heavy rains in Oklahoma edge into
Arkansas.
I will be out of the office for awhile today, but expect to be back in
time to issue an update around 3:30 PM.
