All -

John Gaines and I attended a Red Cross Meeting this past Monday.

The meeting started out with a feedback session - What did we do right? What did we do wrong? There were many good things mentioned. One of the things that came out in this discussion was that the folks in Redfield wish now that they had kept the hams around. Donna complimented the "ARRL" (aka Hams) for what was done. She asked about the number of reunions and I mentioned that Bernard had indicated that about 880 messages were handled.

The shelter operations cost approximately $1.3 million dollars with about 25000 meals served and about 1700 people assisted. Much to their surprise, Jefferson County residents contributed about $300,000 in cash to the effort. Quite a showing for a community of our size.

Many compliments were shared on how well the shelter was run - from locals like Travis Creed to state wide officials like Mike and Janet Huckabee. It is interesting to note that one of the most common comments made was that the shelter seemed disorganized. However, once the people got involved they found that there was a good bit of organization that wasn't evident from an initial observation.

The Red Cross Chili dinner fund raiser is coming up and we were asked to try to sell some tickets.
