when the hunters and hunted met at Stoby's Restaurant for breakfast. Andy
and Dan Ward were the fox, and the winning team were Butch Tatum, KC5AHO and

textbook is $19.95.

ARKAN NEWS -- K1ARK reports that they are planning a Skywarn spotters class
for Washington Co. and NWA area hams in January or February 2006. Thanks to
a donation of antennae and related items from Washington Co. OES, the W5YM
repeater is up and running at a higher level of performance. K1ARK is still
working towards an ARES net on Tuesday nights. K5ABC is NCS for first
Tueaday, and K5DEF is NCS for the second Tuesday of each month. Two to four
more volunteers are needed to act as NCS. If you are interested, contact
K1ARK.

ARKANSAS REPEATER ASS'N --Marc Gwin, KB5ZMU is starting a repeater
association called The Arkansas Repeater Association. The goal of this
association is to place linked repeaters along the Interstate System in
Arkansas from Blytheville to West Memphis on I-55, along I-40 from Fort
Smith to West Memphis, and along I-30 from Little Rock to Texarkana. This
job is going to take more than one person. I would appreciate any help that
may be given. You may contact me at the following email address:
kb5zmu at midsouth.rr.com This Association will be Non Profit as soon as I
raise the $500.00 fee to pay the IRS. So if anyone wants to contribute
toward paying the fee may send a check to the following mailing address.
Arkansas Repeater Association 1402 Stratford Dr., West Memphis, AR 72301.
If any one would like to join the dues are $20.00 a year. Just send the
check to the address above. Each repeater is going to cost around $1200.00
minus the hard-line. The antenna is $700.00; therefore, if you would like
to help out money wise please send a check to the address above.

Batesville ARC NEWS - REPEATER REPORT- After being down for about 10 days
the BARC KD5AYE 147.27 repeater, or the .27 machine, is back on the air!
Noel, KD5HPK and David, N5TSC have worked some late and cold nights to get
us back up and running. The current machine is a GE Master II commercial
unit provided by KD5HPK. The replacement has better output and we have been
working into Little Rock, Memphis and Mississippi regularly again. Our old
Yaesu repeater has developed a serious transmitter problem after nearly 20
years of service. Special thanks from the club to Noel and David for
getting this problem resolved! WI FI REPORT- Phase I is on line as of this
Sunday! We apologize for the delay, but with the tower problems, bad weather
and hurricanes we've all had our hands full. The system is currently
experiencing some intermittent connectivity problems with the high-speed
Internet connection. This is proving to be an inconvenience; however, SBC
is working on the problem as it is in their fiber-optic line or switch.

FIELD DAY REPORT- In a word it was -- HOT! Yes Murphy was this year's big
winner! It seems every antenna and piece of gear the clubs owned
malfunctioned this year, save the generators. The oppressively hot WX
certainly cut in on participants and the score reflected this. We did not
break 10,000 points for a number of reasons; however our score was good
enough for a seventh place overall finish.

CAREN NEWS -- W5RXU writes: It is always sad to report a silent key. Gene
Dozier W5OCP became a silent key Friday. Most of the CAREN Club Members
didn't know Gene, he retired from one of the Railroads many years ago. Gene
was instrumental in assisting with the building of the original 146.94
repeater. Back in those days, there wasn't much in the way of commercial
equipment, cavities or controllers, in fact the first repeaters were put on
with COR's, Carrier Operated Relay's to key the repeat function. I
personally watched Gene build the phasing harness for the home brew
cavaties, which were built by H.O. Tyler, W5GKO, also a silent key. Along
with Max Gavin, W5ODF, another silent key, Don McDaniel, WA5OOY, Wayne
Mahnker, WA5LUY, Gene was an integral part of the first 146.94 repeater.
Note that Don McDaniel, WA5OOY is still CAREN's Technical Committee
Chairman. As we lose the earlier Hams that left us so much legacy, we need
to remember to elmer and help along new young hams to replace those we lose,
in order to perpetuate the hobby.
The following hams were elected: President -- Mark Barnhard, KD5AIV / Vice
President -- Dale Temple, W5RXU / Treasurer -- Tamara Tidwell, KD5MOV /
Secretary -- Diane Meador, KD5QNN. The Board will serve from January
through December.

ARKANSAS YOUTH ROUND-UP- K5UZ has appointed the following young hams as the
new Arkansas ARRL Section Youth Leadership: ASM Youth -- Brogan Collins,
KD5WKA ; PIO-Youth Jon Reed, KE5DKR; PIO/Webmaster- AR Youth Webpage Scott

young AR hams and let's all work hard to get more in the hobby.
