Got this note thought I would share it as most of us have used the 94
repeater sometime during our ham careers -
It is always sad to report a silent key. Gene Dozier W5OCP became a silent
key Friday. Most of the CAREN Club Members didn't know Gene, he retired
from one of the Railroads many years ago. Gene was instrumental in
assisting with the building of the original 146.94 repeater. Back in those
days, there wasn't much in the way of commercial equipment, cavities or
controllers, in fact the first repeaters were put on with COR's, Carrier
Operated Relay's to key the repeat function. I personally watched Gene
build the phasing harness for the home brew cavaties, which were built by
H.O. Tyler, W5GKO, also a silent key.
Along with Max Gavin, W5ODF, another silent key, Don McDaniel, WA5OOY, Wayne
Mahnker, WA5LUY, Gene was an integral part of the first 146.94 repeater.
Note that Don McDaniel, WA5OOY is still CAREN's Technical Committee
Chairman. Thank you very much Don.
As we lose the earlier Hams that left us so much legacy, we need to remember
to elmer and help along new young hams to replace those we lose, in order to
perpetuate the hobby.
73,
Dale
