The following activities were brought to my attention. If you have the time, consider getting involved. I suspect that they will appreciate your participation and help...

1) September 25 - yes, a Sunday morning - 0700 - Arky 100. Start of this bicycle race is Sheridan. Emil, Roger, and I tested communications on this course yesterday and we found that there is no one single usable repeater. I personally checked Pine Bluff, Malvern, and even the .94 repeater. The repeater that probably did best was .94, but it wasn't "hittable" in some of the areas. Simplex seemed to work best, so we're
planning an antenna in the center. Put it on a hill and run it a ways up in the air. There are some places in that south-central section - between Leola and Carthage - where they have to pipe in sunshine. They also can't depend on cell phone service in that area. Will need operators, because there are at least 6 stationary and several mobile stations!!!! Come one, come all. Radios probably need to put out at least 10 watts or 5 with an antenna way up in a tree.

2) October 1 - American Diabetes Association - I think start-off time for this bicycle race is 0730 from somewhere in NLR Riverfront Park, so we'll probably need to be there at 0700. Approximately same course as last year - down Broadway and out Hwy 165 to Scott, along the river road and around to England, Hwy 31? to Sherrill, back to Coy and back in to NLR.

2) October 7-8 - Friday evening the Thunderbird district of Boy Scouts will be setting up out at Pinnacle Mt. for a Camporee that weekend. As far as I know, they are planning are a setup from us for Saturday but space may be limited. May have to use mast with dipole (inverted V) for HF or small beam for 2 m. Anyway, I'll know a lot more when they work up the details.

3) October 15-16 - Boy Scouts of Foothills District at Conway are the hosts. Jon McFadden is the contact and he is excited. Apparently, Thursday night they decided they want to do an actual Camporee, so there may be more than one location there needing a setup. Jon's original plan was something like the tower trailer at Faulkner Co. Museum, and he may still want something there. Don't know exact location of Camporee.

On a local note, we might be needed for the Smoke on the River event this weekend. If I hear more details, I'll share them you both via email and over the repeater.

glenn
