Subject: Miss. ARES Activation/Freq.s

I just RCVD the following from Malcolm, W5XX MS SM:

The West Gulf ARES Emergency Net will activate on 3873 at 0800 AM on
Monday August 29 in response to Hurricane Katrina. Short skip on 40
has been almost non-existent except in the late afternoons; thus much
of the operation will be on 3873. The 40-Meter frequency will be 7285.
A shift from 75 to 40 and vice-versa will be at the discretion of the
Net Control.

Checkins will be limited to served agencies as well as stations with
emergency, priority, and weather related traffic or stations in the
affected storm event area with information or inquiries. All other
stations should monitor the frequency. There will be periods of
silence, but this is necessary to keep the frequency clear for
emergency or priority traffic.

If you want to assist with the emergency communications response to
Katrina, please contact your District Emergency Coordinator or County
Emergency Coordinator. A list of the DEC/ECs is on the section website
at www.arrlmiss.org.

Mississippi Assistant Section Manager AD5IS is coordinating the Net
Control Schedule. If you need to contact him his email is
ad5is at nexband.com or (662) 862-7224.

Best 73 de W5XX

Stay ready and lets pray fro our friends and neighbors to the South.
