Things are progressing nicely for a field Day effort in Hot Spring County
(Malvern, AR).
Here is what we have so far, and what we need:
1. We have permission to operate from the Hot Spring County OEM -- (Class
1F) -- large training room on the SouthEast corner of the building. (Thanks
to Fred & Nelson)
2. We have permission from John Green to use his Call Sign: W5AR. (thanks
John)
3. We have an Icom 756 PRO; old laptop computer; WriteLog software; one Heil
headset and one G5RV. We need at least one more G5RV type antenna. MAYBE
EVEN A SMALL TRIBANDER, OR SINGLE BAND BEAM. I am 75% of the way to
procuring a tower trailer from ARVARF, the Ham club in Pope County,
(Russellville) AR. (Those guys are too soft hearted for their own good).
With a little work it will provide a nice center pole for two opposing
(north/south - East/West) G5RV type antennas AND/OR a small beam if one is
offered. Also, we could use a little gizmo to connect two sets of
headphones. The logging person has got to hear the same stuff the operator
hears. We NEED some RG-8 size Coax with Pl-259s on each end.
[[Note: ARVARF holds the state record for class 1F. We will use their tower
trailer to beat their record..... Ain't life sweet?!]]
4. We have one computer expert onboard (KD5RTL) who can set up the logging
computer ahead of time, make it shake hands with the radio to track band
changes... and Then submit the log after it's all over.
5. We NEED someone who can/will volunteer to oversee BONUS stuff -- like a
satelite contact; copying the ARRL message; Digital contacts; etc. and etc.
6. We NEED Operators and more Operators.
7. We NEED someone interested in overseeing refreshments -- Diet Dr. Pepper;
Donuts; Diet Dr. Pepper; potato chips; Diet Dr. Pepper. coffee; Diet Dr.
Pepper. (Is anyone interested in a HamBurger cookout type meal in the OEM
parking lot Saturday Evening? Personally I would rather concentrate our
energy on Operating and Public Relations. McDonalds isn't very far away.)
8, 9, 10. What am I forgetting? I haven't done this in a YEAR. Please
email your volunteering; suggestions; complaints; etc. to me at
N5QJ at arrl.net
