Hello Friends,
Les Hendrickson, who was a caretaker of the Mt Nebo nodes, drowned Thursday
night. He was operating a R/C boat in the Arkansas River and waded out to
get it and got in too deep. I just learned the news this evening from
another person who considered him a good friend, Dennis Schaefer, W5RZ our
SM. Some of you may remember Les from Conway DEC meetings.
Les was active in the Arkansas River Valley ARC and participated in many
ARES events. One of his favorite radio activities was finding pirate radio
stations on the shortwave bands. I was privleged to get to spend time with
him on several trips to the NBO nodesite. He and his lovely wife Dena would
take me out to dinner when I would come down and even put me up for the
night on one trip through. Time spent with them was one of the things that
made packet enjoyable for me and made all the work worth doing. I'm sorry
that I was unable to get in touch with him on this most recent trip; I
missed his help and companionship up on the mountain, and now I will miss it
all the more. Les was a good and kind man who worked hard, honored his
friends and remembered what mattered. My heart and prayers go out to Dena.
73 and gud DX, Les.
