Notes from this morning's session -
1300Z on 7260.0 KHz
At this QTH, the signals were weak that were within the state. K7ZQR and
W5RXU were both noticeably down (barely above noise level) from their normal
10 to 15 over S9
At net time, a broadcast station came on frequency making participation from
here almost impossible.
At 1307Z -
Band shortened up sounding much better -
Lots of new people coming on the band. Lots of things we know they don't.
We need to emphasize preparedness - family disaster kit.
Six things are need in the family disaster kit
1) water
2) food
3) first aid supplies
4) clothing and bedding
5) tools (at home and in car)
6) special items
People participate in the SET and exercises because that they feel they
should to "use" the frequencies. Many join for the fellowship. It is
stimulating and exciting to many. Good public relations for amateur radio.
Don't take anyone for granted. Not everyone is a NCS or can work in the
hospital. You will have undesirables but you must learn to work with them.
Leaders can't voice concerns about quality or quantity of volunteers.
We shouldn't talk about how it was in the good ole days. Newcomers are
interested in what it will be.
Watch acronyms... they may not know what we are talking about. How many of
you can know what RACES stand for?
Involve newcomers. You can't give them enough praise. Involve them in the
exercises and planning.
Dale then went down the list asking for comments.
Generally, the consensus was that the move to 40M is a good one. A
suggestion was made to start on 80M (3987.5) then move to 40M (7260) (by
W7JON).
