Winter Weather Discussion
Weather Services International
600 AM CST Tue Feb 4 2003
A mix of winter weather is still possible over AR Wednesday evening through Thursday. Northern MS and far northern LA may get a mixture of winter weather Thursday night into Friday.
A stationary front will set up along the southern Mississippi Valley starting Wednesday. Low pressure developing over NM and west TX, along with high pressure over the eastern US, will help pull moisture up into the service area starting Wednesday evening. The main focal point for tonight will be over AR where a mixture of rain, sleet, and snow is possible between Pine Bluff, Hot Springs, and Little Rock with little, if any accumulation. North of Little Rock, some light snow is possible with a minimal accumulation of an inch or two possible by Thursday morning.
It looks like the precipitation will continue through much of Thursday.
Although, some model guidance suggests that the precip will come to an end Thursday morning. At this time, we would like to lean toward a solution that will result in periods of light precip through the day Thursday. That would mean more light snow for northern AR with a mixture over the central portion. Surface temperatures will be above 32F, so any accumulation will continue to be light and limited to off-road surfaces. Northern MS and northern LA may get a mixture of snow and rain Thursday night as colder air works down into the south-central US.
Due to the large discrepancies in model guidance, the Thursday night/Friday forecast will have to be closely watched. Any changes will be reflected in future updates.
