	Ladies and Gentlemen...

SKYWARN Recognition Day begins this Friday, so the event is drawing
	near.
As expected, the Nashville office joined the list of participating
	offices, so
115 NWS offices are slated to participate. I'll have to check, but I
believe this is the highest total number of offices since the event
	began
five years ago. Please check "http://hamradio.noaa.gov" for the
accuracy
	of your station information.

I will make some adjustments and correct some typos to the
endorsement
checklist tomorrow. It will be officially released tomorrow
afternoon.
Once it goes out, everything is locked in place.

I will also get on the air Thursday afternoon to answer any last
minute
questions. We did this last year, and it seemed to be successful. It
also affords an opportunity to check some of your equipment. I'll
be on 15 meters (it was open today) at 2100 UTC around 21.350 MHz.
If 15 meters is not open, I'll try 20 meters (14.260 MHz) at the
same
time. I'll be using the WX0GLD call sign.

For those of you planning IRLP operations, some concerns were raised
that the eastern U.S. IRLP reflector would be slow since so many
hams are expected to participate. KD4RAA has a plan to help. So,
the eastern reflector will segment the sub channels based on the
	following
	plan:

	Channel 0 - Node 9210 - General Traffic
Channel 1 - Node 9211 - Eastern Region NWS Offices
Channel 2 - Node 9212 - Southern Region NWS Offices
Channel 3 - Node 9213 - Central Region NWS Offices
Channel 4 - Node 9214 - Western Region NWS Offices
Channel 5 - Node 9215 - Alaska and Pacific Region NWS
	Offices

This is not a plan set in stone. However, if you are planning IRLP
operations, please try to go to the appropriate node based on where
you are located. This info was placed on the web site, and a message
on node 9210 will direct hams to the appropriate spot. This should
help
with radio traffic on the node. We are investigating getting an
	alternate
node in the western U.S. - I'll keep you posted.

I'll briefly discuss security issues. The number one thing to
remember
	is
this: if you are asked to stop SRD activities by NWS personnel, then
stop. This has not happened in years past, but NWS officials have
the
final call on this. Otherwise, non-NWS will be asked to sign a
roster
sheet and show some type of identification. Each office has slightly
different security measures, so non-NWS operators should contact
the local office to discover what is expected.

I've discussed logging previously, so I won't get into details here.
Just remember to send me an electronic log after the event is
finished (no later than December 31, 2003, please). If you
are not going to use a commercial logging program, that's fine.
Just send me a list of the call signs you worked using a spreadsheet
or word processor program. There should be one call sign per line.
If you worked 150 stations, than your electronic log would be
	150 lines long.

That's it for now. Tomorrow, I will answer any last minute
	questions you may have.

Subject: Skywarn Special Event Station Operators

UNCLE "SKYWARN SPECIAL EVENT STATION" NEEDS YOU

	(No, I'm not very creative)

This weekend is the Weather Service Special event. More than 115
National Weather Service offices will have ham stations set up and on the
air.

For the first time, we have operators willing to work the Friday
night shifts.

Below, please find a list of confirmed station operators.

We need more operators for all shifts. You can work less (or more)
than 6 hours if desired. (We take all volunteers).

If you can work, please contact me by e-mail or telephone at:
"mailto:[email protected]", home phone (501) 316-4499, or cell phone (501)
519-5510.

Also, please forward this message to other hams who may be willing
to work this event.
