Please contact Bob if you would like to take this course AND hold one of the positions he details. If you are an AEC, let me know that you contacted Bob and I will add you name to the list of nominated AECs. I'm working to gather those names (WB5UGJ is an AEC for Jefferson County).
Glenn
PS: Terry - please make sure this gets out on the Emergency Communications net tonight.

Subject: Emergency Communications Course Registration
This message is going to Section Mangers and the ARRL Field Organization appointees.
ARRL Emergency Communications course registration: Registration opens Tuesday, October 1, 4 PM Eastern Daylight Time (2000 UTC), for the ARRL Level I Emergency Communications course (EC-001) supported by the recent federal homeland security grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). This class is reserved for up to 200 ARRL members who now hold an official ARRL field appointment (ie, ACC, ASM, BM, DEC, EC, LGL, NM, OBS, OES, OO, OOC, ORS, PIC, PIO, SEC, SGL, SM, STM, TC or TS).
Members who hold the informal Assistant Emergency Coordinator (AEC) appointment will be eligible if registered by their SMs or SECs. Registration will remain open until Monday, October 14, or until all 200 seats have been filled--whichever comes first. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis and seats are expected to fill quickly.
Mentor/instructor assignments will be made and course welcome letters go out October 15, followed shortly by access codes. Students taking advantage of Level I emergency communications training under the CNCS grant program will be asked to pay for the course via credit card during registration. Upon successfully completing the training and certification, students will be reimbursed the $45 fee.
The Level I online course runs for eight weeks after the opening day, and students can work at their own pace. The course requires mastering the material in each lesson, completing online exams, and completing some activities for each lesson. Each student is assigned an online mentor (a fellow ham who has taken the class and is knowledgeable in emergency communications).
Anyone considering signing up for the Level I course is urged to review the syllabus and activities available on the ARRL Certification and Continuing Education Course Syllabi Web site < http://www.arrl.org/cce/syllabus.html>. The average completion time is 25 hours over the eight weeks, and prospective students should carefully consider their ability to devote enough time to complete the course.
The goal of this grant is to strengthen local emergency communications. Upon completing the course, students not currently active in emergency communications activities are strongly encouraged to get involved with their local ARES units and put to use the skills they've learned. For more information, contact Emergency Communications Course Manager Dan Miller, K3UFG, [email protected]; 860-594-0340.
