Hi All

Tech Night is coming up on Thursday Feb 18, 2010. 7:30PM at the Monroe
County Emergency Center. The last meeting of the EPARA club was a good
one. A list was made of all things the folks who attended the meeting
thought would be good subjects for tech night. The list is as follows:

1. How to use HF Radio ..ie...tube tune up....amplifiers, keyers, interface
modules,
2. How to use an Antenna Tuner the right way
3. Morse Code class....RTTY, PSK,
4. Getting off the repeater.........more activity on HF...we all congregate
on the 045...lets get on other bands
5. Getting out of the Technician rut..........upgrade to General, use 10
and 6 meters effectively, start some nets there?
6. Extra liscense class....help getting there
7. Buiding a 2 meter beam....or any beam for that matter

As you can see, there is interest in lots of areas. The problem being to
find someone who can present the material effectively with visual aids,
power point presentation, and hopefully some hands on demonstration. Not
an insurmountable task, but a bit more than just showing up and talking.
For it to be effective, and for folks to actually learn and progress thru
this hobby it would be in all of our best interests to continue to look at
tech night this way. I would like to hear from anyone who feels
comfortable doing any of the above listed subjects. I am willing to help
in any way possible with the goal being to have an interesting and
informative session for all who attend.

Please check the URL www.qsl.net/technite which is now being
updated for all to see by Jerry N3SEI. As time goes on, this will develop
into a great tool and informative place for all of us.

Thursday will be a great night for computer training. Forrest White
(KB3TEK) will be presenting a power point about computers. He has allot of
experience with many different operating systems. We all use them, we
all have problems with them. Echolink will be discussed, as well as virus
issues, and many more. If you are having a problem, please write down what
it is and what you have tried as Forest will try to answer all your
questions. In addition, if any of you have computers you would like to
bring to the session, please do as there will be time allowed to work on
them. A few members do have great computer skills, hopefully they will
attend and assist Forest in this presentation. Please allow him to lead
the session, but I am sure all input will be appreciated. I will be acting
as a moderator and hopefully keep things on track.

PLEASE PASS THE WORD TO ANY HAMS YOU KNOW.....INVITE THEM TO ATTEND!!. We
need participation, and get the ham community involved in both of our
clubs. In area code 18360 alone there are over 300 listed hams, let alone
the surrounding area codes. Why are they not involved in our clubs?????
Lets talk it up, get them involved as it would be more beneficial to all of
us if that happens.

I have not heard from any of you in regard to any presentations you would
be interested in attending. I will work with the list above and attempt to
find good presenters on these subjects. Any volunteers who feel they can
present these subjects effectively please contact me. I am more than
willing to stand up in the front of the room with you and help. We are all
friends, have a common interest in ham radio, and I don't think anyone
needs to be intimidated by the group. Understandingly, it is difficult to
speak to a crowd...however it is mind over matter. Step up to the plate!
Beleive it or not it is actually fun and quite rewarding to teach or just
advise folks what you have learned in the past. We have all had
"Elmers"...so, why not continue this tradition in ham radio with our own
group of great people here in Monroe County.

SEE ALL OF YOU AT "TECH NIGHT"
