Hamfest Report

The list of vendors is growing. If you know of a tailgate vendor let Bill or Kevin know and we will contact him/her.

It's only march and we have a formidable list of companies that have said they will attend. KJI Electronics, Radio Shack, Computer Renaissance, West Mountain Radio, The American Red Cross, Marshall's Hill Top Hobbies, The Hobby Shop at The Ribbon Factory, Gabbies Goodies, The Goodie Jar, KenBro Embroidery and EsSents of Heaven.

The list of door prizes is also impressive. KJI, Ramsey Electronics, Radio Daze, Nike Golf, Icom and MFJ. There will be more including Cushcraft!!

On the list of interested companies or organizations that might attend is Radio Daze, The Wireman, Ray Price Ford to demonstrate Satellite Radio, NJQRP, and the list is growing.

The owners of The Hobby Shop are looking into a big display of R/C airplanes with the Shawnee group and Bill Marshall is going to demonstrate R/C cars. So far we need to get the train hobby represented and I'm going to attend a large train show in York, PA next weekend. Hopefully we might get someone to demonstrate R/C trains as well.

Walt, W3FNZ is going to attend the Timonium Hamfest and pass out more fliers. Walt and Bill are planning to attend Perkasie, Murgas, Sussex, Warminster, BARA in NJ and Jonestown hamfests. I sent out fliers to fourteen other hamfests that are within the Atlantic Region and are within driving distance to our hamfest.

The icing on the cake is our special event station, N3IS run by Steve, N3MX and our Section Manager Eric Olena, WB3FPL will explain the Homeland Security aspect of the station run by solar and generator power.

Please let Bill or Kevin know of your concerns regarding this endeavor. Your input will make this a success but we need to know what you are thinking, good or bad. Any ideas to make this a great event is appreciated. The next meeting for the hamfest is April 14, 2005, 6:30 PM at the Pocono Record building in East Stroudsburg.

We do need people to work at the hamfest. The success of all our planning, time and effort is going to depend on you. Please mark your calendars to make sure you are available, September 10, 2005 at 5:30 AM. You have plenty of time to rearrange your schedules if not you will be missed. The vendors will arrive at 6AM and the doors open at 8AM. That two hour interval can be a bit confusing, your help will make the difference. During the hamfest all club members (EPARA and PARK) should have a hand held radio to communicate with the others to help solve problems on site to minimize confusion if you do not it might be possible to borrow one. A simplex 2 meter frequency will be determined when we get closer to Sept 10th.

As with all PA schools there are certain rules that must be adhered to, one being smoking. I'm sure that outside will not be a problem as with the Vo-Tec, inside will be monitored by security and they have no sense of humor when it comes to rules. The fine is $300.00 for smoking/ each offense. Forewarned is forearmed.

Thank you for reading this long message, we wanted you all to be up to date on the status of the hamfest. We will keep you posted as changes occur via this reflector. The web site URL is: http://home.ptd.net/~w3mj the web site is free and Dave, WA2FTI has contributed his expertise, time and talent to make it look inviting and professional.
