QSL.NET needs our support---now. We all know the economy is not good at the
moment, but we all also know that amateur radio is NOT a cheap hobby, and if
we can afford even one radio, we can all afford a small annual donation. If
you are a member of QSL.NET (QTH.NET) e-mail lists, you obviously own some
sort of Internet- capable computer---again an item that is not particularly
cheap.
If QSL.NET is hosting a FREE web page for you, consider this: I have a
commercial web site for which I have found a very reasonable host. That
costs me $15.00 a month, which is $180 a year. Al is giving this same
service to all hams FREE ! Isn't that worth a small donation just in
appreciation, if for no other reason.
So it is safe to say we can ALL afford a few bucks each year to keep the
good thing we have. How expensive would it be if every one of us using
these wonderful facilities donated.SOMETHING?? If each one of us donated a
dollar (yeah, one buck) right now, Al could keep the operation running for
the next twenty year. That is NOT a typo.
Of course we know that (human nature being what it is at times), that not
every user will contribute. They will just continue to use the bandwidth Al
provides to complain about what's wrong with QSL.NET or QTH.NET. Forget
them. It's up to rest of us to keep the ball rolling, so I am asking each
member of the lists I moderate to make a small donation ($5 or $10) NOW.
It's not fair to expect Al to keep forking out expenses out of his pocket,
and it's not fair to depend on "somebody else" to contribute. We need you to
contribute. We can all afford to make a small donation to keep QSL.NET alive
and healthy .
