The PaQP has a culture of lots of in-state people who are not regular contesters who are trying to work other PA stations and get as many or all the PA counties. These people are largely SSB operators.
There are also a bunch of people around the country who are active in their own state QSO parties, and get on for those parties in other states. (I fit that description.) In many other states there simply is not the level of in-state activity that PA has, so these QSO party fans tend to hang out on CW, where a few good mobile operations can make for a reasonably interesting time. (see states like Kansas and Oklahoma.)
Most people from out of state just tune around listening for in-state stations. Since many casual in-state SSB operators never call CQ (true of all states, not just PA), the out of state people tend to find SSB operation in state QSO parties less rewarding.

During the contest when switching to CW I started noticing something.I was working so many out of state contacts, vs Pa.When using N3FJP, you can see your last 10 contacts, and at times 8-9 out of 10.Did anyone else notice this. Our local club has about 70 members, and only 3-4 do CW.Is this now statewide ?73Herb K2LNS
