[PaQSO] CW ?

I operated all CW and I think there was less CW activity. I missed 12
counties, only one of which I'm aware of was on CW, but I'm curious what
the other all-CW ops bagged for counties. It seemed every time a rare
county spot was posted, it was for phone. Not to cry in my Cheerios, but I
felt left out and gave up any hope of a sweep. ARRL section mults were
also harder to come by on the high bands. I could see from the Reverse
Beacon Network that my signals were getting out and hitting the west coast.

I got really adept at answering email and surfing Facebook in between
QSOs. I regret the decision to go all CW and QRP this year. Next year I
will probably have a linear amp and perhaps more antennas here at the
secret lair. I may switch over to the dark side and go QRO next Party.
:-) Truth be told, I think I'd rather do a MM next year. But I digress.

I doubt any decrease in CW activity is a result of the cessation of code
testing. I was one of the last 20 WPM licensees, but I honestly do this
because I enjoy it. I was a pure phone op my first few Parties 16 years
ago. When I saw the "pros" running CW and stacking up the Qs like
cordwood, that got me interested. New guys seem to be curious about CW and
want to learn it, especially after they get through the initial VHF
repeater "gateway drug to HF" phase, in my opinion. We just need good,
friendly CW ops who welcome them.
