Afternoon all,

Okay, Tad is all set up for sponsoring the 20 meter "Good Neighbor" plaque, and now we need one more sponsor to complete the group.

This is the Multi-Single Rover class, a recent addition.

For those not familiar with Roving, it is similar to mobile operation, in that you move between counties. You operate with generally better antennas than a typical mobile, then tear down your antenna setup, and move to a new county, and set up again.

It?s a rather demanding sort of operation, and for years we only had single operator plaques. But with the demanding operation, there were probably a lot of people who came along to set up, then waited around. So now they can get in on the operating too.

So if anyone is interested, the cost of sponsorship is 40 dollars, and we now take PayPal or Credit cards on our website.

The very important thing is to not try to pay before I approve a sponsorship, So if you are the person or group, wait until I confirm the sponsor status.  Of course previous sponsorships continue until we?re told otherwise, so those sponsors do not need approval to pay. Sounds strange, ?approval to pay?.

As usual, I?ll do a first come - first serve choice, and make a waiting list after that.

In addition, we have always taken suggestions for plaques, and the suggester always has first dibs in that case.

Its nice to see several stations planning 6 meter operation during the 
PA QSO Party.  Sporadic E-skip is rare that time of year, but it can 
happen any time. Here is a real time propagation map for 6 meters in

The old layout was designed to get everything on one page for mailing purposes, so it was a compromise in readability at best, and the information was getting pretty small. I have not checked out the particulars with my Co-chairmen, but,

word has it that at least 3 of my satellite stations will spend some time

on  the 'Magic band'. 

AND, the co-chairmen have limited me to 40, 80 & 160 SSB, from BUX.

Obviously I cannot be present in all of the 9 satellite Counties, but

all of my assistants will be trying to imitate my voice, ha.

It blew me away when I heard your call since I was unaware you worked

bands! I was on a 2700' mountain near my house. I can see the site I

house. This was my first time helping the K8EP group and I helped 
smash their previous
QSO records especdially on 6m. ^m and 2M were up, 222 and 432 were 
down. I operated
without sleep from 2PM Saturday until 9PM last night. I left them the 
last two hours. I had
to get home to sleep to get up 4:30 for work! Be interesting in the 
Spring when they release
the results.

Hey Larry.  FB on the VHF contest last weekend.  I almost took a drive down
to Mt. Davis in Somerset County to meet up with a couple of guys operating
from the lookout tower there.  Mt. Davis is the geographic highest point in
PA.  Instead, though, I did a few things to get ready for PAQP.  I hope to
work you in that one.  I'll be W3TDF/CLE and running 100W instead of QRP
this year.

50.125 MHz and up for SSB.  Depending on local activity and operating 
practices, you may want to stay 3 kHz or so above .125, especially if we 
get any E-skip propagation enhancement.

I believe most CW activity is in the 50.090 vicinity, but that may vary 
by local preference too.

I'm one of the Bonus Station Co Chairs.
When you ask, "where?", do you mean which Counties will have 6m, or on what frequencies to look?

6m SSB should be near 50.135 & up, but if the band is open and 6m ops crowd the band, we will spot the Bonus Stations here on the reflector.

CW ~ 50.095 or so.

I anticipate we will be active on 6m for a short 2 or 3 hr pre-announced window on Sunday morning only, but watch here for the live spots.

County / band breakdowns coming in 10 days or so.

Subject: [PaQSO] Open Tailgate -PAQP participants welcome-This Saturday

Homecoming football game.  All are welcome to visit, 9am-11am,(Space 2271, in the Parking Lot just west of Beaver Stadium. It's no big deal. Just a chance to eyeball other PAQPers. 

I tried the same thing last year at the Kent State game, but it poured like cats and dogs all day.  BUT  Norm, AI2C made it! (my old room mate!) Hopefully we can have a few more show up this year.

This is not a formal get together and is not organized by the PAQP boys.  Just an idea I had.   de Bob

PS WW8OH, located in central OH, had the 2nd highest score in the PAQP among all out of staters, for the past two years. Some guy down in GA beat us out both times, but the gap is narrowing. Hi Hi.

A detailed announcement will be released here on the reflector soon describing ALL of the Bonus Station's activities, but meanwhile I can share with you that we plan to have a 6m presence from at least 5 EPA Counties, (read: Multipliers.)

I think you can expect these opportunities in a concentrated, limited operating window, likely only appearing on Sunday morning for an hour or two.

This should satisfy those making the effort to earn the Bonus multiplier with the extra antenna, and allow our Ops to get back to the HF pileups in short order. Naturally, if the band opens and the demand justifies lingering, many will stick around to deliver the Q's.

Hello Fellow PArty'ers! 

Today's helpful tip is to remind you that there will NOT BE ANY stations signing, 'W3TDF' without a County Suffix as part of the Callsign.

Therefore, if you log a contact with one of our many Bonus Stations simply as, "W3TDF," your program software will likely NOT credit your earned Bonus Points.

You must log all Bonus Stations with COMPLETE calls that will include their 3-letter County designator after a foreword slash, exactly as shown here:

This year has been a roller coaster ride for Goody.  You know it's been bad
when I start talking third person.  I'm in the process of getting divorced
and I'm no longer in my QTH of 20 years.  I'm now located in Jim Thorpe in
a remote chalet surrounded by trees, rather docile deer, and garbage
can-raiding bear.  It's back to basics with a dipole antenna and feedline
run through the back balcony door.  But the trees are tall and my spirits
high.

So I'll be operating QRP from the County of Carbon, as usual.  I'm not sure
if I'm going all CW again or if I'll try phone.

It's great we're honoring the Grump this year!  See you in two weekends for
the greatest QSO party.

That's right. A special one-off PAQSO Award Plaque is up for grabs in 2 weeks, and it could hang in your shack forever.

This year, Nittany ARC with sponsorship by the QCWA Chapter 17 of Allentown / Bethlehem bestows essentially, recognition of Lifetime Achievement by honoring W3TDF with the "Ray 'Da Grump' Celebration Award" that will go to the Amateur that makes the most Contacts with the W3TDF Bonus Stations.

As Mike mentioned, Ray who turned 90 in June, is a Charter Member of Chapter 17, and its most recent Past President.

There will be over 100 County/band/mode Bonus Station Multipliers over the course of the weekend, so this could trigger a horse race as intense as the coveted County Sweep! With a smorgasbord of signals from ten County's on 160-2m generating CW, Phone, and RTTY/PSK, who will claim the prize is anyone's guess.

After traditional scoring methods are applied by N.A.R.C., (dups, busted calls, and bad S/N's are all tossed) any unlikely resulting tie will be determined by the contestant who bagged the last Bonus Station the earliest, according to the timestamp of the associated W3TDF/xxx log. Nittany ARC will be the sole judge of the decision.

I have seen the Award, and it is a beauty.

The final prep for being ready for next weekend's PAQSO Party as W3TDF/CHE
is getting my N1MM Logger to shake hands with my XP-Pro Dell.   I use Ham
Radio Deluxe with the TS-590 and the hand shake works nicely.  With HRD
closed and the logger on that port,  the logging program WILL NOT connect
thus far.  I've tried all variations and settings in the config comport
sections.  The error message I get repeatedly is "check your receiver's band
plan" . I have no idea what that means.  The log is set up to serve for the
contest, but if its talking to the computer it makes for a much better data
collection at the end of the event.   I'm sure XP users out there have had
this problem before in past contests.  If so throw me a line so I can get
this one last glitch nailed before Party Time.   Thanks and 73s.have a great
