Pulled the plug a couple hours early since I met my goal - a Clean Sweep at 2:47pm Sunday, with 265 Q's in the log. QTH: Licking County, (central) Ohio. Club station WW8OH did not activate this year so I decided to operate S-O from the home QTH. Age: 72
Last minute antenna building on Sat, Friday night downloading of N1MM+ (Maybe 50% of N1MM+ worked FB, but Im still figuring out the rest Hi Hi. But I like it!), and finding the new antenna tuner settings caused me to miss the first 2 hrs of the contest. I also opted to watch the PSU-UM football game, :< so another 4 frustrating hrs were spent in front of the TV.
So, Thanks! to all who made this great, fun contest and my clean sweep possible. Activity and cndx were outstanding! Could have been the best cndx in years! Hear guys talking about operating from cabins in the mountains, family farmland, etc. Very cool! Several kind ops relinquished the freq so I could work a new county that they had just worked! Tnx guys!
My skip distance (looking east) to PA is between 100 and 400 miles, so Sat morning ( last minute work is always best) I wired up a common coax feed to 40m and 80m half wave dipoles, which also served as guy wires, and pushed up a 28 ft mast by a corner of the xyl's veggie garden, to hold the center. So, really, they were two inv V's with the peak at 28 ft, and the ends at 8 ft above the ground. Three trips in and out to trim the lengths ( all 4!) got resonance in-band, and I was ready to go ( at 2:15pm Sat.)
As luck would have it, my only SNY qso was with W3TDF on 20m - my only contact on that band.
160m was pretty active around 11:30pm-midnight Sat night.
Worked Mr Mobile:K8MR from two counties on Sunday - on SSB no less, with 59 sigs. Man does Jim attract pile ups!
Misc Stats:
265 Q's
