I think Jim, K8MR summed it up pretty well. I wanted to add one thing - the
main reason for separate categories (mobile/rover) is to keep a mobile from
using non-mobile antennas, and thereby gaining an unfair advantage over a
true mobile with lower efficiency radiators. Take this for example; a mobile
pulls up to a friend's house who has a 70' tower with beams. He hooks his
mobile rig to the fixed antennas and starts operating "mobile". Don't laugh
- it happened in another QSO party I participate in and I got into a big
argument with the one of the committee members over it. So if you can't
drive with the antenna in its final form, it isn't mobile.
