People at our field day site (W8DC, Rockford, MI) were calling me Olde Grump and worse because I wasn't feeling well. For whatever reason, this year I was in terrible shape during the first day of Field day - my legs weren't working nearly as well as they typically do. I blamed it on the fact that I had dug up a flower bed for my wife's flowers on Thursday and Friday. By Sunday, after only about 4 hours rest between stints at field day, I was doing much better with walking, etc. I have 13 more years before I hit 90 - that is IF I hit 90! 72/73 de n8xx Hg QRP >99.44% of the time On 7/1/2014 10:32 PM, TwelveVDC--- via PaQSO wrote: > Scroll down to the 3rd photo, caption, and accompanying paragraph. > > http://lehighvalleyramblings.blogspot.com/2014/06/ham-radio-operators-prepare-for.html > > That's Ray (at 90!) on the left in the 1st photo too, putting up the tower. > > > de NL7XM > (W3TDF Fan Club President) From paqso at mailman.qth.net Mon Jul 7 23:14:03 2014 From: paqso at mailman.qth.net (TwelveVDC--- via PaQSO) Date: Mon, 7 Jul 2014 23:14:03 -0400 Subject: [PaQSO] PennDOT Form MV-904 (07-14) Message-ID: Friends, get your Call Letter license plate tag before PA DOT comes to its senses! As promised, I have made some significant changes to the party, and I think you should like them. So let us get started. As usual, the Party pages are at: http://nittany-arc.net/PAQSO.html 1. The reviled requirement to mail in a paper summary is gone. It?s history. It served it?s purpose for a long time, but this is 2014. You still need to send in a summary, you can just email it in instead of mailing it. But if you prefer mailing it in, you are completely welcome to continue. One of the reasons for not eliminating the requirement until now was that the paper version of the Summary sheet was how people let us know if they wanted to purchase a promotional item, buy a worked all counties plaque, or make a donation. Which prompted the second major change. 2. We opened a web store which will allow people to get their PA QSO Party goodies, or to donate if they desired. We accept either PayPal, or your major credit card. It will also allow people to get their ?stuff? before the party, instead of only after it was over. You can get to the store via the party page: http://nittany-arc.net/PAQSO.html or directly: http://nittany-arc.net/PAQSOStore.html This helps to address a couple things - It gives people an idea of what the shirts and caps and plaques look like, and just makes it easier in general to purchase if you wish. Oh - did I say Caps? Yes, we?ve added an embroidered cap to the promotional items. We?ll have different items over time as promotionals, as there were a lot of good suggestions when I polled last year. My Biggest Mistake 3. The "Received Logs' pages are also history. When I implemented this some years back, it sounded like a really good idea, to allay people?s worries about their logs. What it ended up doing was making a huge amount of work, and some folks would mail in their logs, and ask why they weren?t on the page the next day. It was trying to hybridize snailmail and the immediacy of the internet, and the two were simply not going to meet. We will go back to the proven method of publishing the preliminary scores, and if a person doesn?t see theirs, I?ll work with them to get their scores posted. 4. I got me some help. That should be a big help. 5. I?ll be posting the plaque winners in the results. Seems like something that should have been done forever ago. side notes: - Elimination of the mailed -in Summary sheet requirement does not mean that summarys are not needed. If you don?t email in a summary sheet, we?ll send a reminder that we need one - via return email. I got a guy to do that. - Also regarding summary sheets, make certain that your summary has the mults broken down into county and section mults. I get a lot that only have the total of multipliers, and have to dig those out manually. - In that vein, remember the gold standard for summary sheets is the one we provide on our site. If your program?s summary sheet doesn?t match that, it is wrong. We still have some programs that are giving 1.5 point QSO?s for CW below 40 meters. Fill in, and you can email it back. http://nittany-arc.net/paqsoforms.html We use Cabrillo 3 now. I can still work with Cab 2, but prefer the latest. The party rules are also updated and on: http://nittany-arc.net/paqsoforms.html Most of the changes are regarding the elimination of the mailed in summary, and updating the Bonus Station. As always, let me know if you find any problems - I?m one of those guys who is so smart I know multiple ways to spel every word???. I?m really looking forward to this years party, between the changes making it easier for the participants, and celebrating Da-Grump, it should be a really great time. - 73 Mike N3LI - From tdanley at suddenlink.net Thu Jul 31 15:16:16 2014 From: tdanley at suddenlink.net (Tad Danley) Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2014 14:16:16 -0500 Subject: [PaQSO] Pennsylvania QSO Party Announcement In-Reply-To: <5EB11875-6B04-4A74-A95E-28A9EE035BAA@gmail.com> References: <5EB11875-6B04-4A74-A95E-28A9EE035BAA@gmail.com> Message-ID: <53DA9600.1000403@suddenlink.net> Great improvements - thanks so much Mike! 73!
