Hello, fellow PAQSOP'ers!

Shake those bugs out of your stations and antennas! Things ramp up quickly at this point for the "Friendliest QSO Party Of Them All."

This year, The Quarter Century Wireless Association Chapter 17 Allentown / Bethlehem (EPA) is celebrating completion of its 50th Charter Anniversary.

In conjunction with our outgrowth QCWA Sister-Chapter 224 of Pennsylvania Wyoming Valley who celebrates their own very 1st year, members of both groups are teaming up to recognize the 90th birthday of 'da "Grump" himself, Ray / W3TDF.

Ray is a Charter Member of both and is the most recent Past President of Ch.17. (Named in memory of famous QSL printer, Rich "Brownie," W3CJI.)

Ray's accomplishments in the PAQSOP are legendary. No one holds  has held, or broken more County Record scores than Ray.

To appropriately honor Ray, we will be employing his Callsign in all 10, (yes, ten!) Counties we will have a presence in that weekend, affording dozens of ways to log Bonus Point multipliers by working these on different band/mode combinations.

The Callsign formats will be:

"W3TDF/BUX"
"W3TDF/CAR"
"W3TDF/CHE"
"W3TDF/CLE"
"W3TDF/LEH"
"W3TDF/LUZ"
"W3TDF/MON"
"W3TDF/NHA"

("Da Grump" himself will share the mic with relief operators at the BUX site.)

Details with preliminary schedules of band and mode plans of each specially chosen participating station will be published here in time for you to chart your attack. Spots will be posted frequently on this reflector during the Contest to keep you reasonably posted where each Bonus Station is at that hour to help you get the most mileage out of your effort. Checking your emails occasionally will definitely give you a speedy advantage.

Hello, everyone.

 

My name is Tom Behler, and my amateur call sign is KB8TYJ.

 

I actually belonged to this mailing list a year or two ago, but somehow,
probably due to something on my end, I became un-subscribed.

 

Anyway, I'm back, and I just want to say a few words to re-introduce myself
to the group.

 

I have participated in the Pennsylvania QSO Party contest for quite a few
years now from my current home QTH in Michigan, and it has been an absolute
blast.

 

In fact, I took first place from Michigan for the past two years.  I'm still
looking to get that county sweep, so maybe this will be the year!

 

I was born in Bethlehem, Northampton County, in 1954, and lived there until
I moved to the Harrisburg area at the age of 7 in 1961.  My ham radio roots
go back to the state of Pennsylvania.  I got my first amateur radio license
(one of those two-year novice tickets) back in 1969, as a kid growing up in
Cumberland County.  I actually was a member of the W3UU Harrisburg Area
Amateur Radio Club for a few years during that time.

 

As these types of things often go, I had to drop out of the hobby for quite
a few years from 1971 until 1994, due to pursuing my undergraduate and
graduate education, raising a family, etc.  However, I got back into things
again from out here in Michigan in 1994, and have been very active in our
hobby ever since.

 

I totally agree with those who say that the P A Q P is certainly one of the
friendliest State QSO parties out there!  Everyone has made me feel quite
welcome as an out-of-state participant, and I truly appreciate that.  It is
so much fun talking back to those of you from my old neck of the woods.

 

As a final note, I want to point out that I'm a blind ham, and have found
the N3FJP P A Q P logging software to work extremely well with my adaptive
speech screen reading software.  I mention this in the hopes that, if any of
you should happen to run into Scott Davis (N3FJP) himself, you could do me a
favor and let him know how helpful this is.  I have told him myself via
e-mail, but it's always good to reinforce the cudos however we can.

 

Thanks for reading this note, and I'm looking forward to seeing you all in
this year's contest.

dust bunnies, replacing noisy capacitors in a DC Power Supply to my Yaesu
857D, (through an AL811H 700 watt steroid)  tightening up my antenna support
ropes and singing opera scales to prepare my voice for the QSO marathon.

Thanks to the sharp-eyed Grump, a critical typo has been politely revealed in the list of Counties that Bonus Stations will be operating from.

No Special Event ops are planned from Montour Co, but they are from MONROE. The mistake was my own in sound-alike haste, and I apologize for any inconvenience to busy volunteer programmers.

In short, please replace "W3TDF/MON" with "W3TDF/MOE."

So, the Callsign formats will be:

The web pages have been updated as of last night:

I've switched to a more friendly CSS stylesheet that will allow me to make
changes and additions a lot easier. The way it was before, seemingly minor
changes often required  major rewrites and massive tweaking. The pages
should also load faster.

Other additions are an update on the W3TDF bonus station plans for 2014,
with the counties that will be activated.

Plaque sponsors will now be able to pay for their plaques on-line if they
wish.

Webstore now has the same look and feel as the rest of the site. Which was
what prompted me to learn more CSS in the first place, the old version of

I looked at it and figured it was a typo too (57 counties?!?).

I would either add "years" after "57" or change it to "67" in reference to
the number of PA counties like the plaque has.

 You need the FullInstaller and the Latest Update installer. Save both files to your hard disk. 


This is public beta test phase. The Update Installer is changing almost every day. 
Please do not report an issue unless you have the latest program version installed.
