I agree with K3SV's comments that W. Coast stations are actively calling the test, but the consensus seems to be that they do not do so in proportion to their number, especially compared to the DX stations, all of whom have to compete against all the other DX stations to get a certificate (at least I think that is correct, i.e., there is no "high score - France" for instance, while the 6, 7, and 0 areas stations only need compete in their respective sections and thus have a greater likihood of winning a certificate, or at least doing well within a narrower scope of stations as opposed to being lumped in with all the DX - wherever it comes from.
To be honest, the DX stations seem really enthusiastic to be a part of PAQP, and that's great! Would be even greater if each DX entity was a mult but if we did that, then PAQP would become a sort of hybrid domestic/DX contest!
N3KAE reports that five percent of his score is represented by DX stations. Given that PAQP is really a domestic contest, that 5 percent seems high especially when you consider the lack of western multiplier stations relative to their numbrers and the awards they are eligible for.
Another commentor says that the number of 6 stations actively calling the test was down this year.
One thing I've always wondered about PAQP is this: For the county certificates, there is no distinction between high and low power entries - that is, the highest scoring station is the winner no matter the power level.
That always seems a bit unfair to me.
Oh well, just my musings...would like input from anyone so inclined,
