[PaQSO] Certificates received

Hi everyone,

I received my CAR award cert as well. I'm thrilled to have mine, but some day when I have a huge pile of them like Tom, I may want to opt out as well! :-) The "opt out" option is a good idea.

BTW Tom: You are a hero to loads of us for dishing out so many rare county mults! Thank you!

It's funny how I value the CAR award so much! I do the big DX contests and try to make the Top Ten in the very competitive Single-Op Assisted class. I usually do pretty well in these big events, and even made that venerable Top Ten on a few occasions. With all that, why is it so cool to win dinky little CAR in the PA QSO Party?

1. It's the PA QSO Party, my favorite contest of them all!
2. PA has always been my home. CAR has been my home for 50-ish of my 53 years!
3. This "dinky" county is small with only a few PAQP participants, but it's been very competitive!

Let's dig into that last one. My dear friend Goody K3NG has beaten me the past few years. I'm frying the ionosphere with 1500 watts, big antennas, and a killer QTH. Goody sits about 1.5 miles NNE of me across Beltzville Lake with his puny QRP signal and a far less ideal QTH. Yet, he's whooped me repeatedly in PAQP! Yes, some can be chalked up to the 2X multiplier, but obviously that alone is not enough. He's just good - damn good! Kudos to you, Goody!

In fact, even with my 205,448 points, he came within a hair of me! Having him in CAR makes me push harder! He makes me a better operator! He forces me to improve on CW (his real secret weapon)! I know he'll be gunnin' for me come October! I will have to be especially diligent to retain the CAR bragging rights! Come October, Goody might just take it back from me!

Just because I'm a big fish in a big pond, it doesn't mean I'm assured to be the big fish in this tiny pond! :-)

Thank you to all, especially Goody, the mobile/rover/portable stations and of course, Mike N3LI and the NARC gang who make PA QSO Party such a wonderful event!!
