We were able to activate six counties locally this past weekend. What a fun weekend. The weather certainly cooperated for our fun contest.
Our antenna was a 40-80 Hy-Power shortened dipole. The radio used for the last time was a Kenwood TS2000. The convenience of this radio is tremendous, having a built in voice keyer and memory CW keyer. The downfall is overload. On SSB it's not to bad, but on CW, I have seen better overload protection on my tube radios from the 1970's. Next year I will have to break down and pick up a voice keyer for my Omni 7.. The TS2000 will now be used on 1296 EME at our VHF station using the call WA2FGK.
One complaint is no activity during the day on 75-80 meters. I could have worked tons more stations if guys were on during the day.
The best part of the contest is roving for myself. Hundreds of times over the weekend, being thanked for a new one. Plus many drive safely.
Next year I might head west again and give out a tough county.
I have no score totals but we did work over 800 stations with a very simple station. I did notice conditions on Saturday evening were horrible. 95% of our contacts were made on 40 meters both CW and LSB. I have to get some sort of quick antenna to string up next year for 20 meters. Our total score is very poor due to missing so many sections to the west.
In a few days I will send in breakdowns of our fun weekend.
Thank's for a fun contest gentlemen
