Has the FCC actually ever cited anyone for not IDing between QSOs in a
contest exchange? The practice seems pretty common in contests these
days, and is it really a big deal if the station is doing a run and
IDing every few QSOs? The intent of the rule is to be able to
positively identify the station, not mandate a verbal obstacle course.
This rule is enforced about as much as the minimum power for
communication rule. I'm not saying people should break the rules, but
there's some practicality and discretion that should be applied. I'd
much rather see the FCC devote enforcement energy to busting people
like malicious interferers, not contesters who ID only every five or
six QSOs in a pileup. The same goes for OOs. Life's too short.
