As promised I did go to Fulton and worked 77 stations from the mobile in 3 1/2 hours there. Was a bit disappointed that I could not get to 100 so gave up and drove home. Not going back to Juniata today as I don't see it on a needs list even though I didn't hear it yesterday.
My biggest gripe and perhaps the controlling reason why I did not run more counties this year..... the suggested mobile frequency on 40 was unusable because of stations who set up fixed operations within 1 KHZ of the frequency. Such operations are a bit inconsiderate as with full size antennas and maybe linears
on, wipes out the chance for mobiles to use the mobile corridor, not just me but
any mobile. I would not have been concerned if I heard at least one mobile using
the frequency.
Mostly I was forced to search and pounce answering others which gives others
much less time to find a mobile in a possibly rare county. I did find a spot way up in the band far away from most of the activity down below on SSB 80 KHZ away.
If you are going to have a mobile corridor (and I'd suggest maybe 10 KHZ wide
somewhere in the band and posted as such in the rules), then the mobiles (if observed by other operators) would have a better time of providing others with
possibly needed counties. To the 77 worked from Fulton (including 10 on Slow Speed CW) thanks for being there.
As an aside comment, I read where the 3905 CCN gave up on having their net on
7.178 last night because NCS in Maine was "over run" by PA QSO Party Stations.
The OMISS Net on 7.185 barely had a net. The NATA group which meets before
OMISS also on 7.185 gave up trying too. Shame there isn't a way we can ll get along... eh?
