Wow, what a finish!
We got off to a slow start today. my "early" op, Ben KB3ERQ, got delayed,
and then arrived with 2 harmonics. So between keeping an eye on the kids
(my dog is very friendly, but she's a little too energetic sometimes. she
doesn't MEAN to knock you on your butt, it just happens), and one thing or
another with Ben (he's not an experienced contester yet, but he's learning)
we fell about 100 QSOs behind where I thought we should be.
Then my "late" op, Ron W3LE did an admirable job (yes, he called "Contest
CQ" not "CQ Contest" but what the heck), but then he got a call from home
and had to leave a little earlier than expected.
On top of that, tonight was my daughter's school Homecoming Dance, and she
got invited by one of the seniors, so there was the usual commotion with
that, PLUS my sister-in-law scheduled a birthday party for this evening for
my nephew... on 3 days notice... she's annoyed that I skipped it, but she'll
get over it.
So about the time Ron had to leave, I figure we were about 150 QSOs at least
behind where I thought we'd be, and a good 20 counties plus left to work.
And then things got busy!
I'm not sure what the biggest surprise was... low SN stations in Schuylkill
and then Clearfield called me... or Wayne N7NG calling me 59+10 from his
home in WY (that's the state, not the county)... or just finding myself down
to 5 counties to work, 3 of which I heard during the course of the day but
couldn't raise.
I'm going to send an email to a friend with a nice mobile setup. I'll ask
him if he could spare an hour or two to drive from Butler to Indiana. Can't
hurt to ask...
Hope all did well, and I'll see you on the bands in a few hours!
73, ron w3wn
