[PaQSO] PaQSO Digest, Vol 61, Issue 11

Hi Guys- just wanted to pass along a reminder that the Maryland DC Qso Party is coming up
August 8th and 9th. full details are at www.w3cwc.org
Last year for the first time in 20 years PA had multiple qrp entries into this event and NO normal
stations so only the qrp certificate for PA got awarded.
Next year the MDC Party has a new sponsor so we hope many of you will join us this year.
You can earn a participation certificate for only 50 qso points.
We are expecting an increased turnout this year of MD stations. For example 17 clubs have
indicated they will have their stations on.
A new award "Greet the Judges" will also be awarded to qualifying entries (at least 50 QSO Points- qso points not final score)
and who work at least of of the 6 contest judges this year. (Those are W3NHR, KZ3AB, KB3JNJ, NI2W, W3SPY and myself WA3EOP)
Hope to work you then.

My understanding is that if you work the same station on RTTY and PSK on the
same band, both QSO's receive point credit. Is this correct?
My N1MM Logger changes have been released and the new version is available
for download on the N1MM website.
I have made additional changes for the bonus station points and have sent
code out for testing.

Hi Bill!
You got my point exactly. If there are a dozen "Bonus Point
Stations",all of them running 1.5 kW, whats so special? If you have a single
station running 5 watts, the receiving station DOES get the bonus points!
But I do like the K3CR idea also.
See you in October!

I like the idea of K3CR. Particularly since they would be unlikely to come
up QRP, which I think is a poor idea. I have always felt the receiving
station should get the bonus points when working a QRP station.
Looking forward to Oct.

Ron (W3WN) has two great ideas.? I'd especially like to hear K3CR (College
Radio) as the SES.? 73, Blair K3YD
K3CR up at Penn State. Direct descendant of the wireless station put on the
air by the EE Department in December 1909, so this is their 100th
Anniversary coming up. They were first licensed as 8XE in 1912, but then,
so were all of the other Pioneer wireless stations of the time.
For that matter, the Nittany ARC Gilbert L. Crosley Memorial Station, W3YA,
would also work, as it is also a direct descendant of the pioneer that
became 8XE.

Thanks for the info Mike. The good news is that they're being moved, not
dismantled, as has happened to other college club stations.
While I'm glad to see that a lot of people liked my idea, clearly, they
won't be in the best of shape to operate the club station on campus come Pa
QSO. Of course, the club trustee, WA3FET, could host the club from his
contest station... assuming he still has the KC3R contest setup available...
(no, that's not a typo)
Still, I do feel concerned that I may have put the students "on the spot"
for something they may not be prepared for on short notice. And while I'd
love to volunteer to operate the station Just One More Time (I still have my
"202AA" key to 202 Engineering Unit 'E' from 1982), that won't be in the
cards for me.
Considering, however, that December 1909 marks the start of K3CR's
centennial, maybe they could be considered (if they are interested, of
course) for 2010? (The centennial year would be December 2009 - 2010,
natch). Another alternative would be 2012 as the centennial of the 8XE
license, but that's getting ahead of ourselves.
Looking forward already to the 2009 'test... and VERY glad that I'm NOT
organizing the SES this year! (Once was enough for quite awhile!)

The K3CR station is in the process of being moved, and they don't have
their towers up yet. According to their website they are listening to
stations using a metal staircase. While they would be an interesting
candidate, this year probably isn't the best time for that. Maybe an
inauguration of there finished station sometime in the future?
But not to worry, I have narrowed the SES station down to two
candidates. I'll be making the choice soon. Either one would be a good
choice, we'll see how things shake out.

For clarification, that would be Gilbert L. Crossley, with two "s"'s. I
know that because he is/was my wife's grandfather. There is some really
twisted irony in the fact that she married a ham.

That's correct, the mode change is what is important. i.e, just like
CW and phone being same band but credited.

Sometimes ideas just take a while to put together. I like a good story
related to the Special Event station. Theirs might not be too bad of
one.

If the current students aren't interested, I bet there are enough alumni to activate K3CR.? de K3YD
Just out of curiosity, has anyone asked the

It would be great if they are.
