Yes, but it was always within the domain of the operator to make the
choice on how to log scores then, and now!  So any discontinuity there
was "self-inflicted" (wasn't it?)  

When you change point values/categories/etc. are you not changing things
(out of the control of past participants) that affect the level playing
field aspect of viewing contest scores within a historical perspective? 
Methinks this has nothing to do with advent of computerized logging. 
This weighting of scores or additional scoring categories being suggested
could have been put in place at any time.

Nope, blanket is still a little damp.  Back out on the line it goes!!

P.S.  but yes, Mike, I do agree that some changes are inevitable (like
adding digital platforms) and I appreciate everyone's
gentlemanly/gentlewomanly efforts to hear all sides, REALLY!
