Many, many years ago, after a major contest, folks
would congregate around 3830 kHz and tell each
other how they did in the just-completed event.
At least, that's what happened on the East Coast.
Can't speak for anywhere else on the planet.

With the advent of computers and the Internet,
someone got the bright idea to create a mailing
list where people could post their scores and/or
swap lies.  :-)  That led to the 3830 reflector
that is hosted on http://lists.contesting.com.
