It was probably the implication that people who don't log on 3830 are 
dinosaurs that set off him and presumably others.

I think there's a logical conclusion to explain the disparity between 
in-state and out-of-state submissions.  I think most PA operators are 
casual operators that are participating more because it's the PA QSO 
Party.  Outside of a few former Pennsylvania residents, most of the 
out-of-state participants are into serious contesting and are in the 
event because it's a contest.  I'm not saying that either is worse or 
better than the other, just that each group is participating for 
different reasons outside of the core motivation to have fun.  The 
numbers on 3830 would support this conclusion.  Some of the serial 
number exchanges I got from folks in states like GA and TX which greatly 
exceeded the average numbers I was seeing from PA stations told me many 
of these people were serious contest ops.
