I do quite a bit of contesting and one thing I've found for myself and the "pros" is that you get into a rythm based on intense listening, an expected exchange and info your giving.  If your running hot and you suddenly have to change your stride, well you get pretty tripped up.

I once busted a pileup on a friend of mine who was running stations and is an excellent contestor.  He went from smooth and efficient to he couldn't get past the 3 in my call.  He just wasn't expecting to hear me.

Some will, some won't.  Personally I would give any extra info.  Its faster than saying no a couple of times.  Same idea as working dupes.  Faster to work them than explain.  The logging software - if correctly written - will only score it once.
