Similar adventure 2 years ago in Snyder, I believe. I was set up, and a
game warden came along and, after about a half hour of tribulation,
checking his rule book, and generally jerking me around he asked me to
move to a "designated parking area" and set up. Not really a problem, but
it delayed my start in the party about 20 minutes and the "designated
area" was a poor site.
Other than this one incident....everybody in PA law-enforcement wise has
been considerate, polite, and supportive. I've been questioned several
places, but never a problem, save the one. This year we set up at a PA
fish farm in Clinton, and the big problem was getting rid of the guy
who said it was OK to do so!
I still, however, believe that is it easier to beg forgivness than get
permission. Most folks have bigger fish to fry.
One thing that might help...if the Contest Committee would send a letter
to the PA state police letting them know that "us loonies will be loose"
for the weekend, it might pass thru their channels and give a sort of
passive permission to us all. Some years ago I faxed a notice to all the
Ohio State Patrol Posts in the counties where I was going, and the one
patrolman who stopped for a visit had received the info and already knew
what was up. Couldn't hurt.
