Hi Everybody,

It's nice to see activity warming up on this reflector. Only two months to
go.

I have been mobiling in the eastern part of PA for around 18 years and of
course have learned a lot of good places to operate. The eastern part of
the state was the natural place to operate when I was driving in from
Connecticut, and then after I moved to Long Pond in the Poconos I could
spend Saturday night at home while operating in the surrounding counties.
But last year I moved from EPA to Ohio so I'll once again be driving in from
out of state, but this time from the west. I used to begin the contest in
SUL and spend most of Saturday afternoon/evening in the COL/MTR/NHA/UNI/LYC
area, gradually working my way back east. I could continue doing that and
then work my way back west on Sunday but in order to do this I'd have a 300
mile drive Saturday morning to get to my starting point. That's just too
much, so I suppose I'll have to start from scratch and see what kind of
route I can put together in the western part of the state. Route planning
is a big part of the fun of mobiling, and I'm already spending time with the
maps. Any tips for good operating spots in the western third of the state
would be very welcome.

I have put together a writeup and some jpegs of some of my mobiling activity
over the years. Those interested can see it at:

In the meantime, don't forget the Ohio QSO Party on August 27 (less than
three weeks from now). It runs from noon to midnight on Saturday. It's a
good way to test your antennas and equipment and warm up for PA. We Ohioans
always appreciate the activity from PA and reciprocate in October.

73,

Hal W1NN (op of W3USA/M)
