This contesting stuff is quite the challenge. I erected 5 antennas this year, 160 through 15, and still could not equal my last year's record for Warren county. Right off the bat I felt as if I was in the wrong places at the right times. 20 phone in the early hours of the contest proved to be non-productive for me. 15 meters? I went there just at the wrong times I suppose, as I barely squeaked out 19 contacts. Oh well, there's always next year, and the year after that, and the year............

A special thanks to the W3UU operators who were absolutely everywhere. The 2600 bonus points are very much appreciated. Logging all of the W3UU stations proved to be a non issue.

And of course a warm round of applause to the mobiles who brought the very rare counties to us. In fact, it was N8LXR/M who provided MTR County for my sweep! Thanks Tim! There were some interesting stories to say the least from this hardy bunch. I really do want to do just one year as a mobile in the PaQP. Just one, to be able to say I did it. You folks impress the heck out of me.

And thanks also goes out to the Rovers and Portables for the work you all go through to put your temporary stations on the air. Being a portable op myself, I know how much it takes to move ones station from one location to another, including antennas, while hoping that you didn't forget that one critical piece of equipment.

This year's score was significantly lower than last year's but I still had fun. Ending the first day ahead of Ed, WA3SES, by one mult, I thought I might have a chance to win back the bragging rights.......even though he had a lot more CW Q's than me, and a higher score by at least 6k points, I thought I had a chance.........but it was not meant to be. Ed put on a contesting seminar the second day and ended with a phenominal score of 222K plus!! Congratulations my friend!!

My thanks goes out to Chuck and the NARC for coordinating this fine event. However, the hard, thankless work now lies ahead.....scoring, checking contacts, shipping mugs, shirts, plaques, certificates. Thanks folks!!

In closing, I must say that this years contest was significantly dampened when I returned home to learn that our friend Chuck, K3FT, passed away the very weekend of the PaQP. I had received an email from Chuck saying that he had some things to take care of over that weekend but he would get on in the evenings as much as he could. He never made it. Chuck will be missed by his many friends and fellow operators.

My best regards to all who participated in this year's PaQP. Thanks very much for yet another log full of memories.

Bob, N3FR
