Well, I wasn't really planning on going portable this year, but when I saw that KD8MQ couldn't operate from Armstrong County, I said what the heck! So I charged up the deep cycle and loaded up the car. Found a truck pull-off abt 5 miles west of Kittanning on US 422 that looked inviting, so decided to set up there. I spent about an hour jerry-rigging a shortened inverted vee to the back of the car with one of them World Radio carbon fiber, pull-up masts and managed to get on the air not long after the flag dropped. Batteries started to die around 6 pm, so ran reduced power til I ran out of guys who could hear me, finally shut 'er down around 8pm. Didn't go out Sunday, watched the Browns get beat up instead :o(. Congrats to the eleven ops who worked me on 80m...I was only running 10w by then, nice ears! Didn't do too bad I thought, considering it was a spur of the moment thing, even managed to put W3UU in the log 3 times. Hope I was able to contribute to a sweep or two....73 de Jay N3DQU
