Jeezzz.....
Just over a month before the start of the contest and this change is
announced?! Kinda throws a monkey wrench into things, I must say!
I agree with Kay and the others that this kind of rules change should not be
sprung upon us this late in the game. This contest has been around for
quite a few years and some logging programs like mine, Harry's and others
have been written specifically for the PA QSO Party and will handle the
county line stations with ease. Most of the other multi-contest programs
that have chosen to support this contest have adapted their modules to
handle the present rule. I wrote my program to handle the worst case
scenario of a five county line station. I don't even know if that's
possible
but the program will handle it if it could be done. I think this is going
to cause a lot of scoring problems until the software can catch up with this
new rule. Anyone using my program will have to remember to enter separate
QSO's or be gypped out of a point (or more) for each county line station
he/she works.
And speaking of getting gypped, if I'm reading the rule correctly, a
county line station will only give out one serial number for every contact
he/she
makes while the receiving station will log two or more QSO's which equals
two or more used serial numbers? Is that right? Since my program
calculates the score using the logic of SERIAL NUMBER = NUMBER OF QSO'S =
NUMBER OF QSO POINTS (dupes excluded) the county line station will be giving
two (or more) QSO points and getting only one!! Kind of a disincentive to
be a county line station, eh? I will have to specifically discourage ALL
county line stations from using my program for logging this year.
Not being a professional programmer, changes like this require a lot of time
for me to implement. If this is the way rules changes are going to be done
then I might just have to cease support for my software.
