Xyl and I went camping in Caledonia State Park
in FRA, over Juoly 4th. Had a good time. Nice
folks etc., but no room for antennas. So, we took
a ride. From home, in BUX, we traveled through
LEH, BER, LEB, DAU, CUM, FRA, ADA, PER,
JUN, SNY and UNI.
Now don't you think that was an impressive trip?
It was really inspiring seeing all those County names
along the roadways of PA.
My very good friend Tom,N3EBH, in UNI was very
gracious to invite me, (for competition?????), to come
to UNI to operate the PAP. (I've been needling him for
several years about putting out a little effort and topping
the current County record, or I would come and do it !).
Anyway, in August we went to Raymond B. Winter
state Park, in UNI, for 3 days and Tom, through friends,
was able to get me a location outside of Lewisburg. A
beautiful, level, high, location, with lots of room for my
tower and antennas in a field. Electric and water to be
supplied, for a nominal fee. Only drawback is that these
are 150 feet away. Fortunately a local friend offered to
load me 2 100' 14/3 extension cords. I have anough
garden hose, so I'm all set.
Sorry to bore you.
The owner is 92 years young, 5'6" - 140 lbs, doesn't wear
glasses or hearing aids, drives a car regularly, mows his
own lawn etc. His XYL, at 87, was making chicken pot
pie for a church affair while we were there. Very alert.
Boy, I hope I can get that far. If so, I have to find 15 more
Counties to operate portable from.
Thanks for all the QSO's over the years. You guys and
gals are the greatest.
