The Mercer county club has been doing this for almost ten years that I am aware of. I have entered it many times and had a great time. Especially with the prize being a bucket of wings from Quaker Steak and lube. The worked all mercer county rules etc are available at the ARRL website at http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/club/log.html

Hal,
The WASH club for the past 3 years has sponsored a 2 Meter simplex contest,
in January. I know a few other clubs adapated the idea but are doing it on
other dates (ours is timed so that the entries arrive in time to be
processed prior to our hamfest, but that's another story). Certainly no
reason that one of those could be swapped to a state-wide VHF contest. If
there's enough real interest. Is there?
Another thought... why not do a "mini" QSO Party, like an 8 hour job, on a
sunny spring day? I'm thinking, for example, of a Saturday or Sunday in
April (since March has the big DX contests). It could be also be something
like a 10 meter only 'test -- if you can find a good date before the band
shuts down to summer static (and yes, I know the sun spots are going down
too...)
Am I the only one who misses the IL-QP coinciding with ours? I always got a
kick out of us working each other's 'test simultaneously. (And although I
had initial misgivings when it was rescheduled to "our" date, I also enjoyed
having the old ARRL "Open CD Party" coincide with PaQSO Saturday -- made it
real easy to work a lot of the ARRL sections on 40, way back when)
Now, as depressing as the thought of 360 days (or is it 361? Remember 04 is
a Leap Year!) is... here's one thought for next year's contest. But to pull
it off will take some work and coordination and time.
Every year there are certain counties that are tough to work, and often only
available due to mobiles & Rovers. Which is not, of course, meant to take
anything away from the mobiles & Rovers -- far from it! But at the same
time, there are many counties (Allegheny, Erie, Berks, Bucks all come to
mind) that have stations coming out the ying-yang.
So, why not (through the auspices of the more active clubs and their active
operators) try and make, for 2004, a real effort to put a "fixed" station in
EVERY county? We all know it doesn't neccesarily have to be a high-powered
M/M effort. Just one or two folks with a dipole and 100 W sitting in each c
ounty. Between campgrounds, state parks, inactive hams who will loan a
shack, friends, relatives, travel trailers...
This should be doable. So why don't we try to do it?

Man, we have to wait over 360 days 'til the next one? How depressing.
Here are some suggestions for overcoming the Post-Party Blues.
Eat a lot of junk food
Spend money (new rig?)
Watch a James Bond video
Pick a fight with someone on the reflector (ie "Hey Bob, you're such a
lid!")
Break in on the jerks on 75 phone and raise a new topic "Hey, you guys
really should try operating the PAQP next October"
Start another discussion about Rule Changes I'd Like to See
Look forward to operating the ILQP next Sunday (It's only 8 hours, but it
should offer a temporary fix)
Start planning for next October (naw, that's just too depressing)
Organize a 6&2 PA Contest for March so we only have to wait 180 days 'til
the next one (an idea previously floated and ignored)
Reflectorites with other ideas, please submit immediately!
Depressingly yours,
W3USA/stationary
