[PaQSO] Interference by the idiots

Hello folks,

Well another PaQP is successfully under the belts, and I hope you all had as
much fun as I did. There is, however, one thing I need to talk about, even
before I submit my "official weekend summary" to the reflector, and that is
the unbelievably horrible interference I ran into late in the afternoon
Sunday.

I was calling CQ on 7238 khz when one of the village idiots started
recording my CQ's!! I wouldn't have minded it so much if they would have
simply played it on my current frequency but they didn't. I could hear them
above me, playing it, and then responding to folks that were answering it!!
This went on for about 5 minutes. They then recorded one of my responses to
a contact and started calling CQ, with my call, and played back the
pre-recorded response!! I was absolutely stunned, and the only thing I
could think of doing was to monitor the frequency for about 15 minutes
warning well intentioned operators who were responding to the illicit CQ
that they were not legitimate. That may or may not have been a mistake, but
I was so furious that they were using my call in that manner that all logic
went out the window. The idiots finally quit and I was able to move on, but
I have to tell you, I have not been that upset at such idiotic behavior in
all the years I've been enjoying this contest.

I know, I know, the best thing to do is to disregard them all together and
they usually will get bored with their ignorant behavior, but they were
relentless, and they carried it further than what I felt I could allow.

The Friday night net even had it's share of ignoramuses but those I could
deal with. They were just the garden variety of clueless dopes, but I even
found myself not enjoying the net because of having to listen to their
useless noises.

Sorry to vent to the group this way but I have to tell you, a CW only
operation next year is looking mighty inviting. Those worthless twerps have
not yet invaded that territory!!

Anyway, the contest was for the vast part a really enjoyable event. I'll
summarize in a follow-up email.

Thanks for listening.

Bob, N3FR (port WAR)
