A few quick "unofficial" updates on what members of the Wireless Association
of South Hills plan for this year's party:
First, the N3SH M/M operation that has been in Clarion County the last few
years will not be taking place, at least not from Clarion. Our hosts for
that the last few years, Richie N3SBF & Carol KB3GMN, have informed us that
due to other plans of theirs, their cabin in Clarion will not be available
this year. They've been very kind and gracious to host the op the last few
years, for which we do thank them immensely, but other plans came up this
time.
This should not be a major impact as I've been privately told that several
individuals were/are planning to activate Clarion this year.
At the moment, this year's N3SH team (currently WN3VAW, N3KFD, N0PEU and
K3PCF) are exploring other possibilites. Greene County looks like a
possibility, but nothing anywhere near definite yet. (You may notice that
some familiar calls from the N3SH op list aren't there. Read on)
Second, the WA3SH team (KB3FZU, KB3GMU, KB3HVN, N3HKQ, KB3IAC & family ---
family including KB3IRQ, KB3IVW & KB3IVX, tho I don't know who else in the
family is going) amongst others) will again be returning to last year's
scene of the crime on the Westmoreland/Somerset County line. They plan to
be at least as active as they were last year, possibly going to two
transmitter. More info as we get closer to the contest.
Third, as has been previously mentioned, one of the tougher ARRL sections to
work in the 'test this year should be a piece of cake this year, IF you get
on the high bands. Several of the "regular" N3SH team -- W3WH, W3SRL, W4ZE,
N0VLR & K3VX -- will be travelling south to the USVI home of NP2JF and will
be operating a third club station (currently WP2AIQ but a vanity call is
pending) from Paul's home on the island of St. John. They will actually be
there starting just before the Ca QSO Party and will be operating both
contests! An official notice is pending the assignment of the vanity call
which is expected any day now.
The USVI team will be operating quite a bit on the high bands; they will
attempt 80 & 40 during the evenings, but it's not yet known how well the
antennas will perform there. Nevertheless, it will pay to monitor the high
bands this year for one mult, that's for sure! QSL manager will be N3ZNI
(who will probably be running around mobile again this year with KB3GOT)
As a small extra incentive, the WASH club is considering offering a
certificate for anyone who works all three club stations during the contest,
tying in with the club's 10th anniversary.
More info as it becomes available!
