As is typical for this time of year, the level of activity and the diversity
of topics on this reflector are increasing at a steady pace. Equipment is
getting dusted off, locations for portables are being finalized and mobile
routes are being fine-tuned. Sounds like things are coming together for
another fun Party. So, I figured I'd start another thread of conversation
to liven things up.
I've been busy hammering away at my keyboard late at night, or whenever the
mood struck me, since last year's contest and have finally put the finishing
touches on this year's version of my logging software. I've updated my web
page and now have the 2002 PA QSO Party for Windows Ver. 6.0.0 logging
software posted and available for download. This year's version has been
packaged in a self-extracting AND self-installing file. When you execute
the file it should unzip itself and automatically start the setup process.
This should make it easier for those guys that unzipped previous versions
and then couldn't run setup because they didn't remember where they unzipped
it to.
New for this year is Icom radio control. I picked up an IC-706MkIIG at
Dayton and now have an Icom radio to experiment with. I've tested the
software on the 706 and an R-9000 receiver, but that's all. So, I would
appreciate any feedback from users of other Icom rigs. If there are any
compatibility issues with other Icom rigs, please let me know. I'm not sure
if I will have enough time to make changes, if any problems are found,
before this year's contest but I'll do my best.
Most of the other changes were to add features, make the program more
"goof-proof" and accommodate suggestions submitted by the users. While I'm
not able to fulfill everyone's wishes (I'm not a professional programmer,
this is just a hobby and my time is limited) I do try to make the changes
that you suggest. The program is free (a Ham's favorite word) and, as such,
is distributed "As-Is". You can see what it looks like on my web page and
download it if you would like to give it a try. The web page URL is:

Looking forward to another great contest.
