   Greetings to all!

As a 99% cw operator, I did a little math last spring and found that =
only about 30% of all qsos made within the past two years (from all =
entrants) were on that mode. Nevertheless, I set out this year to =
break(or at least challenge) for the state record in that category. A =
few thoughts along the way:
  . =20
I was able to log 66 counties by midnight on saturday night, but =
waiting for a few mobiles to change county lines on 80m caused a =
dramatic fall in Top Band operation.
Sunday rates are always slower. By noon, I found myself mindlessly =
calling CQ with few resposes on any band. The new mini-beam helped =
somewhat, but it seems like a memory keyer would be a great aid.
By 2pm, I threw in towel and decided to switch modes and moved to 40m =
ssb. Although feeling like a cat out of water, WOW, what a difference. =
Stations everywhere, including counties I strained and hunted for on =
CW. Although not to be taken the wrong way, operating on cw may be a =
contest, but being on phone for just a few hours introduced me to the =
"party."
I think I even came across some kinduv impromtu "net" where stations =
were waiting on a certain frequency for callers who may still need their =
counties. Had a few stations who suggested that if I hear a certain =
county to "send them this way" after I had just worked that county five =
minutes earlier just down the band. =20
So I called an audible, but too late to put up a substantial =
mixed-mode score from WPA. I believe I finished with 613 CW, and a =
little over 200 on ssb for a total of 815 raw qsos. I got my sweep on =
cw early sunday morning and content with that. 56 mults-----where were =
all the W7s????? Compared to the CA Qso Party, the higher bands were =
relatively lifeless. During that contest, 10 and 15m were filled with =
CA operators AND callers.
Congrats to AD8J for sticking out 700+ cw qsos. Hats off to KB3A =
for activating CRN on saturday morning. Many thanks to K8MR, K4UT, =
and W3USA for their outstanding mobile efforts!!!!!! Had a =
color-penciled map with each of your routes. W3USA suggested I buy =
him a case of beer after finalizing my sweep in Wayne county. You guys =
deserve a keg!
In all, K8MR is correct. Having a multiplier count only once =
regardless of mode makes this a different contest. But it certainly =
would make things more interesting with mults on cw and ssb =
separate!!!!!!!!
And one flame before I go...........any way of changing the county =
abbreviation for Beaver to BVR, hi...........
CU all next year.........MIXED mode!?
