Heard from some of the WASH club members who operated WA3SH on the
Somerset/Westmoreland line that they were a little disappointed that there
wasn't that much activity on 2 meters. Apparently they had a lot of
potential from their site (they did work Adams on 146.55) but just didn't
hear too much. Encouraging VHF activity (be it SSB, CW, or FM) at a given
time on Saturday or Sunday might not be a bad idea for future contests.
Also, the rules currently list under the "suggested SSB frequencies"
146.550! Since this is more commonly an FM Simplex channel, you're not
going to find much SSB there (I'm sure the intention was "voice" frequencies
when that was listed). Perchance changing this to, say, 144.210 for SSB
and/or designating 146.550 for FM makes more sense?
Incidently, initial word is that both the N3SH Clarion & WA3SH Som/Wes gangs
had a blast, and you can probably count on both locations being active again
from the WASH club next year!
