Jim, I hope you have on your asbestos flame suit!
1. EXTENDED OPERATING TIME
If any change in the contest length, I vote for a 12
hour contest like OH and MI. Longer will just make
it more boring when you have worked most of the
participants.
2. MANDATORY STAYS FOR MOBILES/ROVERS
The mobiles and rovers should be free to work as few
or as many stations from each county as they want. Why
should they sit and call CQ with no answers when they
can move to a new county and be fresh meat again.
There is already a minimum number of QSO's necessary
for a county to count. Most mobiles will stay in a rare
county longer than they will in a common county. If you
want to work a mobile in lots of counties you have to
keep track of where they are and what frequencies
they tend to like. I've never heard a mobile only work
his buddies. The mobiles are trying to maximize their
score so they want to work as many stations as possible.
3. ELIMINATION OF THE SPECIAL EVENT STATION
Since the special event station doesn't compete for awards,
they don't have an advantage. I personally like the bonus
points for being able to find and work them. Sure, I may
not be able to work them on all bands, but that's life.
4. A 2M FM ACTIVITY HOUR
That sounds like a good idea. I'll vote for that.
5. ELIMINATION OF THE SERIAL NUMBER
You are correct that is screws things up for a multi-
multi. However, I like to be able to see how many
Q's the other stations have so I would like to see
it stay.
6. PLEASE SPIN THE KNOB
It's all strategy. How much time to spend CQing
and how much time to spend with S & P. There
isn't a magic number you can follow.
