Larry,

Since last year's chairman is not on this list (and so far as I know never
was), you are going to have to contact him directly for an answer to this.
Allegedly there was a computer crash that damaged or destroyed some of the
submitted logs, so I guess it's possible that is the reason your
classification was changed. Nevertheless, if the mistake was made in State
College and you are due a certificate, you have to take up that beef with
State College.

It's stupid little things like this that aggravate people and turn them off.
Please don't let that happen to you.

I have to add that as a long time contest participant, Doug W3HDH spoiled me
(and probably all of us) during both of his stints as PaQP Chair. He had a
passion for this contest that is sorely missed. I suspect that many things
that happened in the last two years would not have occurred, at least as
they did, were Doug still in State College and not out in the midwest
somewhere with a new job. (For one, I know Doug wouldn't have emailed me
three months in a row after my club newsletter came out complaining that I
had printed the wrong rules -- because I hadn't been checking the web page
daily for changes, as happened to me 2 years ago. That's not the only
example I can think of, but let it go)

If Ports are eligible for the County Certificate then why did
the NARC people screw me over like they did last year?
Last year I sat two days in my car mobile on the Bedford/Fulton
line (no external grounds, power or antennas) drive away at the turn of the
key and have them change my classification from
Mobile on the two county lines to Portable LINE, beat my closest
competition for Fulton by 24K points and not get a thing but screwed? My
points also reflect what should have been second
in Bedford but their scoring don't mean a thing.

The way I feel right now I doubt I'll ever do the contest again.
It was fun doing it for the first time with a broken tooth,
hardly being able to talk and missing a sweep by two counties.

I think this year I'll sit home and let them screw somebody
else.

On the VHF issue from another thread it could be interesting
when you look at the first day of the MDC QSO Party last Fall.
There was a solar flare and the only points to be had the first
day were basically on VHF. I was mobile sitting way out in Far western
Garrett County, MD and the HF bands were dead leaving
those I could hear operating the VHF bands. It was so bad I
never even submitted my log.
